PHP developer since 2010 · working remotely across Europe

Websites and applications built to fit the way you actually work

When off-the-shelf will not do, I write it from scratch in PHP. I am Mario Merola: you always talk to the person writing the code, never to a middleman.

The method

How I work

Four steps, no surprises along the way

  1. Discovery

We talk, and I work out what you actually need — which is often not what you had in mind at the start. No cost, no commitment.

  2. A quote you can read

Within two working days you get a quote with estimated days, timings and the boundaries of the work. You know what is in and what is out before deciding.

  3. Build

I work to milestones and show you the project as it grows. The code sits in your repository from the first commit — it is not handed over at the end.

  4. Launch and support

Go-live, documentation, credentials. After that I stay available for maintenance, security updates and changes.

Social proof

What clients say

In the words of people who have worked with me

I was looking for someone who understood how group tours actually work, not just someone who could build a booking site. Mario asked the right questions before writing a single line of code, and the platform now mirrors the way we organise our trips instead of forcing us into a ready-made template.
Stefano S. Founder, Trekly
We work with drug therapies: a handling error is not an inconvenience, it is a serious problem. Mario treated it with the precision it needed, raising the edge cases we had missed before we did. That kind of attention is not something you can ask for in a quote — either it is there or it is not.
Matteo T. Co-founder, SiCuro
Before Managify we ran memberships and subscriptions across a generic tool and far too many spreadsheets. We wanted something built for gyms, not software bent into shape. We use the result every day and it keeps growing with us: when we need a change, Mario is still there.
Antonio R. Owner, Managify
Every practice has its own way of tracking deadlines and cases, and no off-the-shelf tool really respects it. Mario started from how we worked and built the software around that. I did not have to change my habits to fit a tool — the tool adapted to me.
Giuseppe M. Accountant, Studio commercialisti
A B2B e-commerce in heating and air conditioning is not an ordinary online shop: there are different price lists per customer and a technical catalogue that has to stay in order. Mario had already grasped those constraints at our first meeting, and that saved us months of explaining.
Roberto V. Owner, Tecnoberto

Indicative day rate

250–350 €

per day

Final price, nothing added at the end

The price is on the page

Every project is quoted as a fixed price, with the estimated days set out openly: you know the cost, and what is in and out of scope, before you sign. Where you land in the range depends on complexity, urgency and whether we are working on code someone else wrote.

I work under the Italian flat-rate scheme, so no VAT is added: the figure on the quote is the figure you pay.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What people ask me before we start

There is no price list, because no two projects are the same. The indicative rate runs from 250 to 350 euro per day, and each project is then quoted as a fixed price with the estimated days set out openly. The figure on the quote is the figure you pay: I work under the Italian flat-rate scheme, so there is no VAT to add.

I come back with availability and a quote within two working days. If it is urgent, say so in the subject line and I will do what I can to move faster.

With me, throughout. There is no account manager in between and no developer the work gets passed to: whoever answers your email is the person writing the code. That shortens the loop and stops requirements turning into a game of telephone.

Yes. The code is yours and lives in your repository, the technical documentation is updated at every milestone and all credentials sit in one document. If you ever change supplier, another developer can pick it up from that documentation without having to speak to me.

Yes, remotely. Distance does not change how I work: email, video calls, Git and updates on a fixed rhythm. Several of my longest collaborations never required a single meeting in person. I am in the Central European time zone, so the working day overlaps almost entirely with the rest of Europe and the UK.

The project does not end at go-live. I offer ongoing maintenance, security updates, backups and technical support, with the option of a monthly agreement for priority in the queue. I also take on sites and systems built by someone else.
