Pasticceria Rosalba – case study

An artisan pastry shop sells two different things: the daily production, bought by walking into the shop, and celebration cakes, ordered to measure weeks in advance. The site separates the two paths.

The constraint that shaped the project

For celebrations the decision is made by looking. Nobody chooses a wedding cake by reading a list of ingredients: they scroll through photographs until one convinces them, and that is when the enquiry starts. If the contact is three screens away, the moment has already passed — which is why photography takes the most space and WhatsApp stays one tap away.

How it works

• The workshop and its history, which in artisan food is part of the product.
• WhatsApp contact always within reach, because the enquiry starts while looking.

The part you do not see

A photo catalogue is the heaviest content a site can carry, and the thing people look at on a phone while they are somewhere else. If the images are served at the size they came out of the camera, the page takes seconds to open and half the visitors never reach the end of the gallery. Resizing and serving them properly is invisible work that is worth more, on this kind of site, than any additional feature.
