SiCuro – case study

SiCuro follows drug therapy along the chain that brings medication to a person, with two distinct paths: care homes, which think in terms of wards and residents, and pharmacies, which think in terms of customers.

The constraint that shaped the project

This is the project where a mistake costs most. We are talking about medication given to people, so every edge case has to be closed, not just the likely ones: what happens if a therapy is changed while it is already being prepared, if a resident moves ward mid-cycle, if two staff open the same record. In an ordinary system these are annoyances; here they are the reason the system exists.

How it works

• Separate paths for care homes and pharmacies: the same chain, two different ways of organising the people inside it.
• A members' area with registration and sign-in, because every operation needs a name attached to it.
• Therapy production tracking, from the moment a therapy is prepared to the moment it reaches its destination.
• A multilingual interface, since staff working in a facility do not necessarily speak Italian.

The part you do not see

The difference between a care home and a pharmacy is not cosmetic: it changes the unit of reference. In a care home the medication belongs to a resident who belongs to a ward; in a pharmacy it belongs to a customer who only exists when they walk in. Trying to cover both with one generic model produces a system that suits neither — the choice is to keep the shared trunk and separate where the two realities genuinely diverge.
